November 22nd Ultrasound

Here is a picture from the ultrasound on November 22 (the nuchal translucency screen). As usual, blogger is having "issues" with accepting the u/s pictures LOL!!

CONVERSATION WITH KEVIN

(While I was in the shower & he's standing outside expecting to be entertained)

K: "Mommy, it looks like you're growing a baby in there."

M: Feigning difficulty hearing due to the shower... "What?"

K: "It looks like you're growing a baby in there."

M: Trying diversionary tactics.... "Where? In the shower?"

K: "No, in your tummy."

M: Silence.
M: "So what would you think of that?"

K: "Well we're NOT gonna be changing any diapers because we'll be doing homework."

M: "You won't change diapers? We thought that'd be your job."

K: "Nope, I'm gonna be doing homework because I'LL BE IN FIRST GRADE." (Strutting around)

M: "So you get homework in first grade?"

K: "Yep."

M: "Does that sound like fun?"

K: "More fun than changing poopy diapers."

I think the child is on to us.

GOOD NEWS... SCARY NEWS

Well the nuchal translucency test went really well today. The skin thickness / folds or whatever it is that they check was "perfect" and the belly bean was putting on quite a show! It was dancing around, pushing off & swimming, and just showing off!

Dr. D said belly bean is measuring 12w0d and that as far as he's concerned, this kid is here to stay!! Did my TB bubble test and we've got an appointment coming up on Friday the 16th so that Hub can meet the doc. At that point we should have the surgery report from Dr. M to see what type of incision he did for the twins' c-section and we can start talking hospitals and delivery styles (VBAC vs. section). Apparently there has been a movement in the area hospitals to lower their risks of having laboring mothers. Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that sections garner the hospitals more money????

Oh - and even better yet... there's only ONE baby (still) LOL!!

I left the appointment feeling really good. That, however, was dashed when I got home & received a message from the other ob group that I'd been checking out saying that my bloodwork on the Cystic Fibrosis scan came back saying I was POSITIVE as a carrier. After some quick research (so Hub would know what I was talking about) it says that if the father is also a carrier, there is a 1-in-4 chance the child would have CF. This is just totally mind-blowing to me; I don't remember being told anything like this when I was pregnant with the boys.

Dr. D called me about 5:30 pm tonite. (Have I mentioned how happy I am I chose him? This is the SECOND TIME IN NINE DAYS the man has called me at home to chat & check in on me!) He said that he doesn't want to panic; that he typically runs CF scans if there is a history of miscarriage or history of CF in the family. He was rather surprised they ran it and he said it is even more rare if Harry were to end up being a carrier. He said he's going to talk to some other ob's who have more experience with this and will get back to me by the start of next week (at the latest) and he'd get it set up for Harry to have the bloodwork done. He said that *IF* Harry were to come up with the same CF marker and we then decided to take the risk of an amniocentesis (which he'd want to do between 16 & 18 weeks to lower risk of miscarriage) they would be able to easily check the fluid since they'd know exactly WHICH markers they were looking for.

Just not sure how I feel about this all. It's rather scary, and with this pregnancy coming out of the blue and being such a miracle, I guess I'm just suspicious that everything would be smooth sailing. :(

WOO HOO GINGER!

Yup, Ginger guessed it right off - she just said it was another set of TWINS.

However, that just makes me even MORE nervous, considering she was in the room in Chicago when (Julie) the palm-reading BSP sister said she saw twin GIRLS in my future, but made the very cryptic comment about how it was MY decision. I always figured she meant it was my decision whether or not to take birth control. Lately I've been wondering if she meant that they were grandbabies and that it was up to me if they arrived on this earth because of if I chose to let their (future) father LIVE or not. (I'm still liking Eleanor's suggestion to let them take the guilt off of me & just tell them to have a duel to the death....)

Anyway, tomorrow is my Nuchal Translucency Scan. So I'll see tomorrow if there is still just ONE in there, especially since Kevin popped up around the 10 week mark and I'll be in my 11th week.

PS: The NT scan is an ultrasound they do to check specific markers while they are more easily identified in the first trimester to see if any markers are present that might indicate developmental issues. It's a non-invasive way to figure out if you really feel it's necessary or not to risk an amniocentesis. (I'm really loving this ob not just telling me that since I'm old I need that big ole needle stick!!)

MIRACLE, MY @*()#$*()@ !!!

If this is such a miracle, why am I so MISERABLE???

Yeah, Harry didn't have an answer either.

UPDATE

Still feeling rather sick, but the Zofran is helping -- although it seems to intensify the tiredness, which is not very helpful.

When C-Ob/Gyn did the review of all my tests they showed that as of 10/20 my iron levels were already on the low side, so I've added in an AM Flintstones chewable to try to help out with that. They were also concerned about the loss of 11 pounds in 20 days. Guess they'll be REALLY concerned once they realize it is now at 21 pounds in 27 days. Sigh... just not quite the way I had anticipated kick-starting the weight loss again.

The kids still have not been told. K keeps talking about when we get the puppy next summer. He's in for quite a shock! I'm starting to wonder if we should just go ahead & tell them; P seems to realize that something is going on because he is being a bit clingy. And with as sore as my boobs have been (sorry, I know - TMI) I can't handle this kids running & jumping onto my stomach & chest anymore - OUCH!!!

THE D-D-DECISION!

Well, I've decided to go with Dr. D. He was a bit "into" hearing himself talk, so I did need to break in on him a few times, but his philosophy is that he is the "conductor" and that at each stop he'll let us know what the options are at that stop (as far as testing, etc...) and then it's our choice as to if we need to make a stop there or not.

Okay, so bad analogy. But I appreciated his intent. LOL!

He is in his own practice and delivers 97% of his babies, and delivers about 200 a year. He said he likes to know that when he sees a family out in public that he's delivered the Mom / Baby, that he also knows the Dad's name & knows him by face... so I thought that was nice that he was interested in having the Dads be part of the experience.

I also like him because he gave me Zofran. It's what is used for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and helps with the m/s nausea.

He'll deliver at either KMC or SV. I think he prefers KMC and I prefer SV, so we'll see how it all shakes out. He told me that he'd support any decision I'd make about repeat c/s or VBAC and he wouldn't force my decision on either of them until I was ready to make a decision. I thought that was pretty cool. (Although he did say that a lot of his vbacs add to his grey hair LOL!!)

I did question about c-sections and when he did them; he said that he prefers to cook boys to 39 weeks and that girls he'll cook to 38 weeks. If, as many of the girls are hoping we're looking at a pink baby this time... we'd be having a May baby!

Helloooo - Here I Am!!

Hi TRUMoms!

Did you figure it out yet????

HERE AN OB.... THERE AN OB....

Well, I am "ob shopping". I mean, really - it's not like I PLANNED to do be doing this at this point of my life!!

I've been seen by a practice of four doctors - 3 female, one male. They have "weeks" where they are on duty at the hospital and all they do is deliver babies. That is one "plus" -- if I have an appointment, I know the doctor won't be delayed, or called out, by a delivery! Their preference is Southview, which is very convenient for us (!). The practice itself is in a building reminiscent of GHA - so down the hall is the blood lab, further down the hall is a medical imaging (ultrasound) lab, etc... The only thing they don't have in this building as compared to GHA is a pharmacy.

Tomorrow I see a male ob, who was recommended by a neighbor (& that recommendation was seconded by the boys' teacher). He is in his own practice so he'd be the one delivering me... and I'll be asking the question about how they accomodate for him being called away or delayed by deliveries! (Y'all know how I detest having my time wasted!!)

MEDS

Have completely weaned off all meds, and after a HORRIBLE week of dry heaving after taking the prenatal vitamins, have gotten a prescription for chewables.

As for the dangerous drug? Everyone is hoping that since it was just being introduced into my system for the first 3 weeks, and that it should (now) be completly OUT of my system, that all will work out. If not, we'll find out around Week 20 because it will cause kidney complications. (I always love how they make you feel so reassured.)

ONE... IS THE LOVELIEST NUMBER....

Ultrasound from 10.24.

I measured at 6w6d (a day off my calculation of 7w0d).

Tech ASSURED me there was JUST ONE in there LOL!!

Welcome to the world, Blob Baby!!

8th WEEK

I'm now in my 8th week.

I'm tired. I feel like I am constantly motion sick & need to heave. I'm bitchy. I'm whiny. And I'm constantly cold. Yup, ME - cold!!

I've told my family, basically because H was noticing my failure to remain awake throughout a whole day and realized that I'm gonna need some help to get through this first trimester. Grampa is excited; took Gramma a few seconds to warm up to the idea (after she ascertained that this was NOT planned LOL!!).

Can I just fast-forward to the end of the first trimester? I was not this sick with the boys and this is NO FUN.
